The Global Challenge is an international high school project that
challenges teams of four students aged 14 to 17 work together across the
globe to create a feasible plan for a global business that addresses a
challenge. The challenge is to create new science, technology,
engineering, mathematics, and business solutions that address global
climate change and the future of energy. Teams must also create a
presentation that shows each team member's understanding of the science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics of their solution as well as
its global business potential.
A well-formed team has two students from the U.S. with an adult advisor,
and two students and an adult advisor from another country. The team of
four students is responsible for what happens from that point forward.
Undergraduate students mentor the teams and Global Challenge staff is
always available to provide guidance and give feedback as they work
through their challenge. A wide range of online tools assist teams
working on the challenge, including calendars, an advising and
electronic portfolio system, and patent information. Teams should strive
for diversity in gender, race, and cultural heritage. The combined
international teams form anytime from September 1 to December 15, and
student pre-registration for 2007-2008 is now open. Over 2600 students
from 50 countries signed up and formed teams last year. Find out more at
