Marsapalooza
at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science
AND LodeStar Astronomy Center
Saturday, March 20, 2004
Two presentations: 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
NASA is coming to Albuquerque!
and bringing an "out-of-this-world" experience
.
Marsapalooza is a special public evening sponsored by the National Science
Foundation to bring personnel from the NASA Mars Exploration Rover mission
to New Mexico. Enjoy this special national event at the Museum at either 7
p.m. or at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2004. Admission is $1 for Museum
members and $2 for others.
Two Mars Rover mission engineers, including Kobie Boykins, a mechanical
engineer who designed the rover solar panels, and two mission scientists,
Dr. Joy Crisp, NASA/JPL, MER Project Scientist, and New Mexico's own Dr.
Larry Crumpler, MER Science Team member, will present their personal
experiences working on this unique mission, and there will be plenty of time
for questions and interaction with the audience. Learn about the
engineering challenges of the mission, the human perspective, and the NEW
scientific discoveries made just in the last few weeks. And, NASA's
outstanding videos and planetary images will be part of the program.
Only a few Marsapalooza events have been scheduled nationwide, and the
Museum and LodeStar are hosting one of them!
The Museum's "Making Tracks on Mars" exhibit will be open during the
evening, and the LodeStar Astronomy Center will provide educational
activities in the Museum and telescopes at the entrance to the Museum.
Tickets for the Saturday evening presentations go on sale at 9 a.m. on
Saturday, March 20 (no advance sales and no advance reservations). Admission
is $1 for Museum members and $2 for others.
The Museum is located at 1801 Mountain Road NW in Old Town Albuquerque. It
is a division of the State of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.
